The Elephants, The Giraffes, and The Gypsies

So it’s been awhile since I last used this. I knew I was going to be bad at blogging. But we didn’t have a whole lot of WiFi this week, and when we did, I wanted to watch some TV. So obviously I first have to talk about THE GIRAFFES (and the elephants and the gypsies I guess)!!!

It was over a week ago, but I still remember the fateful day of September 13, 2014 like it was yesterday. The day started off with taking a van/bus to the Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage. Right away, it was so apparent that this was a tourist hotspot just by the racial make-up of the attendees. Mzungus as far as the eye could see. We were all walked to this area where a rectangular perimeter was roped off. Then, THE ELEPHANT BABIES. Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god they were so cute. The were fed by the staff and then started playing with one another and walking around the perimeter. It was too much. It was actually too much for some people, cause the women behind me was making semi-orgasmic sounds and it was making me really uncomfortable. But when I got a chance to pet the elephants, IT WAS LIFE CHANGING!!! I didn’t realize just how rough their skin would be. And the tips of their trunks were all wet and a little slimy. We only had an hour to see/touch them, but it was magical.

BABIES!!!

BABIES!!!

Next, THE GIRAFFES WHICH WAS BASICALLY THE BEST PART OF MY DAY/LIFE!!! OH MY GOD!! So first off, when we parked, there was a sign RIGHT NEXT TO US saying, “Giraffe Crossing.” Like, WHAT?! HOW IS THIS MOMENT REAL?!

Un

UNREAL!!!

So at this point I was doing some heavy breathing because basically I have been waiting for this moment my entire life. When we walk into the giraffe center, BOOM! You can see the giraffes right there!!! I immediately abandoned my peers and rushed to the deck so I could be face to face with my people. What followed next was a haze of bliss that could only really be described in photos.

Okay next, it’s time to talk about the gypsies! Only I’m not talking about gypsies, but a bar called “Gypsies.” There’s not much to say as it was a regular bar/dance place. The music was really great in my opinion and for the most part, we all had a great time. But unfortunately, the older men at Gypsies kind of ruined what would have otherwise been a great end to a perfect day. They were just standing on the edge of the dance floor for a long time, staring at the women in our group. I was semi-drunk at the time, but even I was wary and keeping an eye on them. Unfortunately, some of them made passes and grabs at some of the women in our group. It makes me so angry that some men think that a women is dancing/exist solely for their own enjoyment. IT’S GROSS! But in the cab ride home and eating some fajitas afterwards, we all got to vent/group bond which was nice. Still, MEN ARE GROSS!

Anyway, the song of the post is “Make You Feel My Love” by Adele. This song could also sum up my experience with the giraffes.
